CCTV & fire safety

Indoor and outdoor CCTV, recorders and viewing on your phone, plus fire safety basics: smoke detectors, alarm points and extinguishers in the right places. Verified technicians for homes and small shops.

CCTV & fire safety

You run a small shop on a street corner. Late at night you pull down the shutter, lock up and head home, and every morning you open up wanting to know what happened while you were away. CCTV cameras let you check that from your phone whenever you like. And in the same space, a small smoke detector and an extinguisher hung in the right spot can make the difference between a strange smell caught early and a serious loss.

Because a camera installation means someone will be inside your shop and will know where the recorder sits and what your Wi-Fi password is, trust is part of the job. Before any technician on Aman Fix can take orders, their national ID card is checked and they record a verification video. When the technician arrives, you can ask for an arrival code to confirm it's the same person who accepted your request.

CCTV installation and repair

  • Indoor cameras for a shop or apartment, and weatherproof outdoor cameras for entrances and garages that can take dust, sun and rain.
  • Setting up the recorder and hard drive, and adjusting how long footage is kept based on the storage space.
  • Linking the cameras to your phone so you can watch live and play back recordings from anywhere with internet access.
  • Fixing a camera whose picture has dropped out or turns black at night, or one that keeps disconnecting.
  • Running and tidying cables in neat trunking instead of loose wires across the wall.
  • Adding cameras to an existing system, or moving one to an angle with better coverage.

Fire safety basics for homes and small shops

  • Fitting smoke detectors in hallways and near the kitchen, and heat detectors where some smoke is normal.
  • Installing manual fire alarm points and an audible alarm bell in a shop or storeroom.
  • Choosing the right extinguisher for each space: dry powder for general areas, and carbon dioxide near electrical panels.
  • Mounting extinguishers where they're visible and easy to reach, by the exits rather than hidden behind stock.
  • Checking existing detectors and replacing batteries or units that no longer respond.
  • A fire blanket for the kitchen, plus a quick demonstration of the extinguisher for your household or staff.

The four stages of a CCTV installation

  1. 1A walk around the siteThe technician walks the entrances, windows and spots that matter to you, noting where the power and router are and how the cables will run.
  2. 2Planning angles and coverageEach camera's position is chosen to cover the entrance, the checkout counter and the aisles without blind spots, allowing for night lighting and for sunlight that could glare into the lens.
  3. 3Installation and wiringThe cameras and recorder go up, cables are run through closed trunking, and each camera is tested in daylight and in the dark before the work wraps up.
  4. 4Handover and setting up viewing on your phoneThe technician installs the viewing app on your phone, changes the default password with you, and shows you how to find a particular day's footage and save a clip.

Common questions

How far back do the cameras keep recordings?

It depends on the hard drive size, the number of cameras, the recording quality, and whether they record continuously or only on motion. When the drive fills up, the recorder overwrites the oldest footage automatically. Tell the technician how far back you want to go, and they'll suggest the right drive and settings.

Will the cameras keep working if the internet or the power goes out?

If the internet drops, the recorder keeps recording as normal, but you won't see the live feed on your phone until the connection returns. If the power goes, everything stops unless the recorder and cameras run on a UPS or backup battery, which the technician can add.

What's the difference between Wi-Fi cameras and wired ones?

Wi-Fi cameras go up faster and suit an apartment or a small shop, but they depend on signal strength and can drop out where it's weak. Wired cameras are steadier and better for entrances and larger spaces, though they need cable runs. Plenty of places end up with a mix of both.

The smoke detector in the kitchen goes off whenever someone cooks. Should I take it down?

Don't remove it; move it. A detector inside the kitchen itself picks up ordinary cooking steam and smoke. The fix is to relocate it to the hallway outside, or swap it for a heat detector that ignores light smoke.

Which extinguisher should I keep at home, and where exactly?

For a home, a small multipurpose dry-powder extinguisher is very practical. Hang it near the kitchen but not right beside the stove, so you can still reach it if the flames are at the stove itself. If you have a large electrical panel or lots of equipment, ask the technician about a carbon dioxide unit. And glance at its pressure gauge from time to time.
