No room in the house works as hard as the kitchen. Cabinet doors open and close dozens of times a day, steam rises from the pots, oil finds its way onto every surface, and water splashes around the sink. So it's natural that it shows wear first, and that a kitchen renovation or a round of repairs comes up before any other room. Hinges loosen, drawer runners get stiff, and the wood under the sink soaks up water without anyone noticing. Sometimes a handful of repairs brings the kitchen back. Sometimes it's time for a new design.
The stages of a kitchen renovation
- 1Measuring up and talking about how you cookThe technician measures the space and notes where the gas, water, drain, window, and outlets are. More importantly, they listen to how you use the room: big batches for family gatherings, regular baking, a cabinet for the large pots, or counter space for a lot of appliances.
- 2Design optionsDepending on the space, you'll see layout options, like a single-wall kitchen or an L-shaped corner, plus door materials such as wood, high-gloss lacquer, acrylic, or aluminum, and a countertop in marble or granite. Each choice has its own look, lifespan, and cost, and you decide the balance.
- 3Carrying out the workThe old kitchen comes out carefully, the new units go in and are leveled, then the countertop, the sink, and the appliances. If an outlet or a water point needs moving, you can book an electrician or a plumber in the same app before installation.
- 4HandoverBefore you call it done, open every door and drawer, run the water and look under the sink, and switch on the range hood. Before and after photos of the kitchen can be saved in the order, and if an installation fault shows up later, you can file a warranty claim from the app while you're still covered.
Kitchen fixes that come up again and again
- Hinges: tightening loose ones, or swapping them for soft-close hinges that shut quietly instead of banging.
- Drawers and runners: replacing stiff or broken runners and realigning drawers that close crooked.
- Countertops: the seams around the sink and stove, small cracks, and silicone that has turned black.
- The sink and its connections: the faucet, the drain trap, and fittings that drip under the cabinet.
- Installing a range hood and running its duct outside through the wall or the air shaft.
- Replacing the cabinet base under the sink when the wood has swollen from water.
- Lining up doors that sit out of line, and swapping the handles for a fresher look.
Where the money goes in a kitchen
Materials make the biggest difference. Solid wood doors cost differently from high-gloss lacquer or aluminum, and granite differs from marble. Then comes size, usually measured in linear meters of units, and the quality of hardware like runners and hinges. Appliances matter too. Keep the old stove and hood, and everything is measured around them. Switch to built-ins, and the design is planned around the new ones.
The number you actually care about arrives in the app once the technician has seen the kitchen in person. Go ahead with it and the visit fee no longer applies. Turn it down and the visit is the only thing you pay for. You can pay in cash or with one of the electronic methods available in the app.
