Swimming pool care & repair

Green water or a humming pump days before the season doesn't have to cost you the summer. Aman Fix technicians clean pools, service pumps and filters, trace leaks, and repair tiles and lights. Book the visit in the app.

Swimming pool care & repair

Two weeks before summer, you pull back the cover to find green water, a floor you can't see, and a swampy smell around the edge. The pump runs for a bit, then starts to hum as the pressure drops. That doesn't mean the pool is ruined. More likely the filter needs a backwash or fresh sand, and the water chemistry has to be rebuilt from scratch. Getting swimming pool maintenance done well ahead of the season is far easier than chasing cloudy water in the middle of a heat wave.

Common swimming pool maintenance jobs

  • Cleaning: vacuuming the floor, brushing algae off the walls, and clearing leaves and insects from the surface and skimmers.
  • Pump service: replacing a leaking seal, emptying the strainer basket, and checking a motor that runs hot or hums.
  • Filters: backwashing sand filters, replacing sand that has clumped, or cleaning cartridges.
  • Tracing leaks when the water level drops faster than evaporation can explain, in the pipework, around the light fittings, or in the shell itself.
  • Replacing broken or loose tiles and mosaic, and re-grouting along the waterline.
  • Pool lights: replacing a bulb or a whole fitting and resealing around it.
  • Balancing chlorine and pH, and treating green or cloudy water.

Before the first swim of the season

  • The water is clear enough to see the main drain at the bottom.
  • The pump runs without odd noises, and there's no drip underneath it.
  • The filter's pressure gauge reads normal after a backwash.
  • The water level holds steady over a few days with nobody swimming.
  • No loose tiles or sharp edges on the steps or around the edge.
  • The lights work, with no water inside the lens.
  • Chlorine and pH have been tested and adjusted before anyone gets in.

Pools at villas and in gated compounds

If the pool is at a villa or inside a gated compound, a few details make the visit smoother. Note in the order where the pump room is and who has the key, the rough size of the pool, and the filter type if you know it. As soon as a technician accepts, you'll see their name and photo, so you can let the gate know in advance. When they pull up, ask for the arrival code through the app, so you know the person at the gate is the one who accepted. If the pool is shared and run by the compound or building management, have the person responsible for it place the order, so approving the price stays in their hands.

Common questions

The water is completely green. Does the pool have to be drained?

Not necessarily. Often the water can be brought back with a chlorine shock, continuous filtering, and vacuuming, without emptying the pool. Draining makes more sense if the water has been stagnant for a very long time, or if there's work to do on the tiles or the shell. The technician decides after seeing and testing the water.

How can I tell a leak from normal evaporation?

Try the bucket test: stand a bucket of water on the first step, then mark the water level inside the bucket and on the pool wall. After a day or two, if the pool has dropped noticeably more than the bucket, a leak is likely. Photograph both marks and add them to the order.

The pump hums but won't pull water. What should I do until the technician arrives?

Switch it off right away. Running a pump dry burns out the seal and can damage the motor. Check that the water covers the skimmer opening and that the strainer basket isn't clogged, and leave the wiring alone.

When should I book the pre-season visit?

A few weeks before you plan to open the pool, not the same week. If a leak turns up or a pump part needs replacing, there's time to sort it out without losing the start of summer. When you order, the app lets you choose the time window that works for you.

Can old pool lights be swapped for LED?

Usually, yes, either in the existing niche or with a small modification, depending on the fitting. The technician checks the light type and how it's wired first, and the work is done with the power off, using a transformer suited to pools.
